2022: Another Year, Another Resolution (+1 year UPDATE)

Here we go again! I’m not usually so eager to write up these resolutions. In fact, my resolution blog posts in other years are written in the middle of January, but I have a feeling 2022 will be incredible. Click the link below for 2021 goals to find out what I did and did not accomplish.

2021 – Unbreakable Resolutions for 2021 (+1 year UPDATE)

Just because my gut tells me 2022 will be better doesn’t mean 2021 was a loss. Here’s the best of this year:

  • I got a dog! My 15 year old passed last summer and this year I finally decided to adopt. I rescued Luka in February and life has been sweet ever since. All about Luka HERE, and more on Peewee HERE.
  • I got LASIK! Sure, my procedure didn’t go as planned and my vision won’t be corrected for a few more months, but I do feel one step closer to waking up with perfect eye sight. Details of the procedure HERE.
  • I stopped drinking! During the week that is. As the world started to become more normal from COVID I saw the return of mid-week happy hours and Sunday night drinks and I was consuming more alcohol than I liked. So, I’ve narrowed down my time for bevvies to Friday to Sunday at 5:00pm. I’ve been going strong since the summer and have come to love mocktail mojitios!
  • I became more open to finding my person 🙂 Your gal has been single for long enough. I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve again and I’m hopeful the right man is looking for me right now.

***UPDATE: My person has been found! I met Jeff, my now boyfriend, and we have had the most wonderful 2022.

So, 2021 was good. Read on for my 2022 resolutions.

Make Time for Yoga

I made the gym a priority in 2021 and completely neglected my yoga practice. I went from practicing 20x/month before COVID to 1x/month this year. I feel my best when I have a consistent practice. This year I plan on finding the balance between weight training and yoga.

UPDATE: Absolutely no more yoga was done this year than last, but I did give it a solid try at the beginning of 2022! I hate to give excuses but I will anyway… Me and Jeff decided to do a triathlon together. Training for the race took priority and I had no energy to do anything else after running, swimming, cycling, and weight training. The race was great, recap here.

Write for the Blog

This space has meant so much to me since the start way back in 2017 (my God that was a long time ago!). I remember having scheduled blog posts twice per week and then that just kind of slowed down to nearly a stop over time. I will be writing once per month in the new year! I don’t know about what just yet, so if you could leave a comment with what you’d like me to write about that would be awesome 🙂

UPDATE: I worked so darn hard to accomplish this one and I did! I wrote 11 blog posts. I started the five things series which now has its own category from the drop down tab.

Be Timely

Deep down inside I have every intention of showing up on time. I don’t know why this is hard for me! I remember when I turned 16 and started driving myself to school I started being late and I’ve been that way ever since. I’m not excessively late, but it depends on how upset I think that person will be if I’m 2 minutes or 15 minutes late. It’s terrible! I knew it was a problem when I showed up to my workout 6 minutes after class started and had to grovel a bit just for the front desk guy to let me in. I’m not saying I’ll show up on time because that’s a stretch, but I’m going to make a serious effort to not be more than 4 minutes behind schedule.

UPDATE: I didn’t get worse. Ha! Instead of being 6 minutes late to my workout class it was more like 2 minutes and that’s almost an improvement.

Stick to a Budget

It’s been a couple years since I had a goal for budgeting. I met with a financial advisor a few years ago who created a budget with me. I’m going to use that template as a starting point and update some numbers here and there. I’ve already dowloaded Mint again and am hoping to cut back on things that don’t matter to spend more on things that do, like vacation!

UPDATE: I did set budgets for myself this year! I didn’t exactly follow them, however they were in place. And although budgeting didn’t go as planned, I tracked my spending down to the dollar every single month. It wasn’t as eye opening as I thought it would be but overall a good practice that I will continue moving forward.

Be a Better Speech Therapist

Nothing feels better than a work win when I’ve been working with a resident for sometime and they make progress, or when I appropriately modify their diets to be safer without compromising quality of life. There’s a lot that goes on that I never talk about, but I love what I do and it still makes me happy. I’d like to learn more this year and have one more SLP certification under my belt.

UPDATE: Another one I accomplished! I did add a treatment approach to my SLP toolbox in 2022. It’s hard to distinguish work from one year to the next if I don’t make the effort to differentiate with the residents in the facility. There isn’t space to write a couple of lengthy treatment stories but I did have two incredible wins this year. Hoping for many more in 2023!

Will you help me stay accountable in the new year? I hope you do!

XO, Vivian
