Me and Grace at her home

My Hawaiian getaway barely missed the fourth quarter mark, but my travel diary is linked here. These final three months of the year have been busy in a good way. Recap of Q4:

Wine Dinner in the Hill Country

Grace is one of my best friends whom I met through graduate school. She hosted a huge wine tasting dinner party at her beautiful home in Austin this fall. I had never experienced anything like it! There were about 9 bottles of different wine served with several courses she prepared for 10 people. In addition to the meal preparation, Grace also provided some info on each bottle of wine including taste notes and region. To say I was impressed is an understatement! The night was fun and the wine delicious. I’m not much of a cook, but I’m far more inclined to host a wine tasting now thanks to Grace!

Little Luxuries

There are things in every day life we don’t realize are “little luxuries.” And by little luxuries, I’m talking about some minimal comforts, like an armrest in your vehicle.

I dropped off my car at the collision center 3 weeks ago (story on car crash here) and was driving around the most economical rentals during that timeframe. Not to be dramatic, but it was miserable! The car didn’t have an armrest or that little slot on the ceiling for sunglasses. I could easily name a handful more things but I’ll spare you the details of my misery.

Finally, I got my car back today!!! While I don’t drive anything out of the ordinary (My car here if you’re interested), I’ve got to say it felt pretty great to be back in my own vehicle. If I’d had another minute to myself without traffic I might’ve even shed a tear!

I Passed!

I passed the Group Fitness Instructor exam! I read, studied, and took the exam in just under three months. I can’t describe how great it feels to have gotten that out the way. Not that I had a negative experience, it was quite positive! And I did thoroughly enjoy the subject matter, but I spent several weeknights and weekends reading and preparing for for test. A weight has been lifted and I have time to myself again! I’m proud of myself for making the GFI certification a priority. It’s another reminder that we are capable to make time for things that matter to us whether that’s a phone call to a friend or a personal goal.

Unknown

It’s been a long time since I have a stretch of time where I don’t know what will happen in the near future. Since I finished school a few years ago all I’ve done is work and play, and not really worried about anything. Now here I am getting ready to take a group fitness instructor exam in few weeks and it’s mildly stressful! Will I pass the first time? Will I do well on my audition for the gig I want? Will I be offered a position? What will my new schedule look like? How will I make time for the things I care about? Allll things running through my mind as of late. I know I will be ok and things will work out the way they are meant to, but until then I’ll just be a worry wart!

Wife Swap

My boss has been gone for over three weeks now and it feels like an eternity. It reminds me of the show wife swap where two families switch wives just to stir the other families pot, did you ever watch that? I remember my mom watching it when I was little and thinking the married husband and wife running towards each other at the end of the show was a little dramatic, but at this point I would do anything to have my boss back from her month plus long vacay! I have no problem being told what to do as an employee by my boss, but right now I have multiple people telling me what to do (that are not my boss) on a daily basis with conflicting information and it’s overwhelming. One more week of this! I can do it.

Early Bird Ge-

Well, you know the saying. I’ve been going to the gym before work for over a year now. Woot! Woot! But that’s all about to change for a little while. My boss is out of town for a month and has divvied up her responsibilities between the therapy team. Unfortunately, she left the 9:00am daily meeting to me. Did I mention daily?! So, I’ll be switching up my workouts to the late afternoon and see how that works out for me.

Five Things 01

In an effort to write more on the blog, I’m going to start writing Five Things twice per month. It’ll just be some of what’s going on in my real life and give me a chance to get back into using this space again. Read on for what’s new with me!
