More Resolutions in 2023

It’s hard to believe I have written my resolutions on the blog every year. Five years of blogging under my belt and this blog is one of my favorites to write. Mainly because it’s the only one I can keep up with year after year! Click below to check out last year’s goals and what I did and did not accomplish.

2022: Another Year, Another Resolution (+1 year UPDATE)

Highlights of 2022 below:

  • Bucket list checks included Hawaii and Las Vegas! Both places far exceeded my expectations.
  • I completed a triathon! I never thought I would finish one again but here we are! I am still so proud. Recap here.
  • I became a certified group fitness instructor! Something that I have wanted to do for so long.
  • I found Jeff! From start to finish of the year, Jeff is in nearly every photo. 2022 will be special to me because it is the year we go to know each other. We met each others friends and families and shared many firsts. He even managed to make the icky parts of the year feel not so bad. It’s safe to say there will be more Jeff in 2023!

Read on for 2023 goals:

Learn DFW Highways

I have officially resided in Dallas for 9 years! I have so much love for this city and I feel like I can’t call myself a local until I learn the highways. I’m familiar with my bubble and even then I still have my navigation on to visit my most frequented places. It was easy to get away with not knowing suburb names or highways when I first moved here, however that’s gotten old after nearly a decade. I’ve become increasingly embarrassed at my lack of knowledge of the DFW highways and it’s time to do something about it. This goal is hard to measure so I’ll judge by the feeling of competence by the end of the year.

Teach Luka Something

It was a simple conclusion to reach when I decided Luka is not a dog’s dog. I failed to ever tell this story on Instagram, but Luka bit me when I took him to the dog park. It’s important to note he was trying to bite another dog and I stepped in to protect the strange dog. So, I got the nip and that’s the end of dog parks for us!

Instead I’d like to teach Luka tricks. His spine is too long to sit pretty, but maybe rolling over? Or agility skills like jumping over a broom. He isn’t a show dog so agility tasks are useless to us. It’s just important to me I spend more time challenging Luka. He’s such a smart little guy! I’d be happy if I taught him 3 tricks/commands.

Prioritize Sleep

There’s something about night time that I have always loved. I find it easy to stay up until 1:00 am winding down, journaling, tidying up. There have been a couple life changes now that don’t allow for late nights anymore. Those are 1) Me and Jeff have moved in together! He prefers an early bedtime. 2) I’m coaching at Orange Theory Fitness! At 5:45 am which calls for a 4:30 am wake up call.

My late nights are no longer sustainable. The current schedule I’m living starts with coaching, followed by my work day, then ends with my own workout. It’s a lot to get through! I am hit hard with a wave of drowsiness every afternoon and I don’t want to rely on caffeine daily. My goal this year is to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night and be productive with my time during the day so I don’t feel the need to stay up and get things done.

Run a Half (and Full!) Marathon

There’s always a fitness goal I must squeeze in here and it seems to rotate between running and yoga. This year it’s running! I’m highly motivated this time around and I have been since the Turkey Trot in November. Race days give me something to work toward and look forward to. I’m planning on running the Dallas Skyline half in April. As for a full marathon, I have never run one before which makes me both nervous and excited! Stay tuned for race recaps this year.

That is all for my goals in 2023. They’re definitely achievable and something I plan on working on this year. Best of luck with your resolutions!

XO, Vivian
