Five Things 07

Me and Grace at her home

My Hawaiian getaway barely missed the fourth quarter mark, but my travel diary is linked here. These final three months of the year have been busy in a good way. Recap of Q4:

Wine Dinner in the Hill Country

Grace is one of my best friends whom I met through graduate school. She hosted a huge wine tasting dinner party at her beautiful home in Austin this fall. I had never experienced anything like it! There were about 9 bottles of different wine served with several courses she prepared for 10 people. In addition to the meal preparation, Grace also provided some info on each bottle of wine including taste notes and region. To say I was impressed is an understatement! The night was fun and the wine delicious. I’m not much of a cook, but I’m far more inclined to host a wine tasting now thanks to Grace!

Travel Diary: Oahu, Hawaii

Kalaeloa Beach

Hawaii, anywhere in Hawaii, has been on my bucket list for ages. It’s been a few months since me and Jeff visited Oahu and I can honestly say I think about this getaway often. Everything about it was perfect! Keep reading for my favorite activities and restaurants.

Travel Diary: San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

It’s been just over a week since I have been back from San Miguel de Allende and I feel like I’m still trying to catch up on daily duties in Dallas, but in a good way! I am so glad I got to be part of a friend’s special day in Mexico, as it gave me a reason to explore the charming little town that is San Miguel de Allende. The long weekend flew by but I’m excited to share the little parts of it that I had the privilege to explore.

Travel Diary: Nashville, TN

Now that I’ve been to Nashville I can say I finally understand what all the hype is about! The Music City was my good gal’s destination for her bachelorette party and boy was it a good time. I feel like I lucked out getting to go with such a fun group! If possible, make the trip with a small clan of your own – bonus if they enjoy country music. Highlights of the bachelorette weekend below.

Travel Diary: Washington, D.C.

There’s no better excuse to re-visit a place like a friend leaving the states. And if I was planning on traveling there in the spring either way, why not witness the cherry blossoms in full bloom? My friend (and unofficial tour guide, Blade) showed me around. Read on for a recap of the long weekend.

Travel Diary: Eureka Springs, Arkansas

The season that occurs between summer and winter, which some would call fall, doesn’t exist in Texas! How is it possible a woman in her late twenties has never seen fall colors before? I haven’t any idea, but I left the green trees in Dallas in search of fall foliage and I have zero regrets!

Travel Diary: Mount Massive

This blog post is finally here! Two months later, but it’s here! I was talking to someone a few weeks ago and mentioned I hiked a mountain with an elevation of 14,429′ and she stopped me before I could go on and enthusiastically said, “you did a fourteener?!” That’s when I realized what I did was actually a pretty big feat!

5:30 am start

A flight to Denver was booked after dinner with Michael one night. We decided we would hike and I let him, the first-time hiker, research where we would go. Looking back now, it was a terrible idea! But hey, I’m alive and here with a story to tell.

Travel Diary: Marfa, Texas

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas is an awkward few weeks where you’re excited for the upcoming holiday but it’s really not coming up as fast as you would hope. During this time frame is when I planned the third blog trip of the year (first trip here, second trip here) The quaint desert town had been on my bucket list of cities to visit in Texas and I finally found girls crazy enough to make the long drive with me!

Outdoor Climbing in New Mexico

Yes, that’s ME climbing. I can’t believe it either! Before I get to the climb, here’s a quick story of how I, a girly gal, ended up rock climbing.

It may not look like it and I may not act like it, but I actually enjoy the outdoors. Something about fresh air and wide open spaces makes my heart skip a beat. Dallas is a great city for a lot of things, but lacks outdoor activity. A paved running trail, park between highways, and rooftop bars are as “outdoorsy” as it gets in Big D. No shame! I love it here! It just means I have had to fill my nature cup elsewhere.

Travel Diary: Palm Springs

The first girls trip to Fredericksburg was such a hit I decided to plan another, this time to Palm Springs with a couple new faces! Palm Springs was an easy destination to choose – everything everywhere is photo ready and I was craving heat at the start of summer. The sweet desert city delivered both!
