Five Things 03

Wife Swap

My boss has been gone for over three weeks now and it feels like an eternity. It reminds me of the show wife swap where two families switch wives just to stir the other families pot, did you ever watch that? I remember my mom watching it when I was little and thinking the married husband and wife running towards each other at the end of the show was a little dramatic, but at this point I would do anything to have my boss back from her month plus long vacay! I have no problem being told what to do as an employee by my boss, but right now I have multiple people telling me what to do (that are not my boss) on a daily basis with conflicting information and it’s overwhelming. One more week of this! I can do it.

Holiday Weekend

I made a getaway to Horseshoe bay for the Independence Day weekend. It was a quick Saturday to Monday trip, and it was perfect! If I were to stay home I probably would have cleaned, grocery shopped, laundry, you know, all those things that steal joy away from having the weekend off. That’s what makes a weekend getaway so special! I left it all behind to deal with when I came home in exchange for some quality time with Jeff. We made it to the lake and played some odd yet fun game with beer cans and a frisbee. It was SO fun and can also be played on land, found instructions here if you’re interested. Other weekend activities included dinner with his parent’s, pool time, and a BBQ paired with the most beautiful firework show. Such a great weekend!

Sand Bagging

I’ve been going to the gym gym. The girls reading this might know what I mean, but I’m talking about a gym with free weights and machines. Haha! I have taken group classes at Orange Theory and Black Swan Yoga for so long now I’m still not used to going to an actual gym! I originally got my gym membership to use the pool while I was triathlon training. The race is over with now but I decided to keep up the membership to weight train once per week with Jeff.

Since then, I have done his exact same workout with lighter weights (much lighter) and he’s caught me sand bagging my workouts. After a set he’d tell me I was sand bagging it and I had no idea what that meant! Haha! Safe to say I’m not pushing myself the way I should. I’ve been working out by myself for so long now I’m not used to any external feedback. But he’s right. I’ve been lifting about the same amount of weight for years and it’s actually kind of nice to be challenged. I’m much stronger than I thought! And maybe you are too. Let’s all stop sand bagging and kick it up a notch at your next workout.

Luka Walks

I used to take Luka out on long walks frequently when I lived at my old place (I moved in February). There was a trail we’d frequent and it was always an easy 3.25 miles for us out and back. I considered walkability when I decided to move. I knew the new place wouldn’t be in a neighborhood or nearly as walkable, and I greatly overestimated my own willingness to prioritize Luka’s walks when I said I would just drive to the nearest trail. I’m not moving anywhere yet, but I’m looking forward to moving Luka into a neighborhood. Dog mom guilt will be lifted and maybe I can get back to getting my extra steps in too.

TV Time

Because the first 4 things were longer than I thought, here’s something shorter on what I’m watching.

  • Stranger Things – I don’t remember the first seasons being so scary, but I couldn’t go to bed one night after watching. The villain looks creepier this season but I’m still into it.
  • The Bachelorette – I’ve been waiting for this! Each Tuesday night I have #TrashTvTuesday with girlfriends just for Bachelor shows. With nothing on lately we’d been watching Rock of Love. 10/10 recommend re-watching that by the way.
  • Workin Moms – I feel like I just started the show yesterday, but here I am on season 6. I actually shed some tears this season, it was good! And if you haven’t seen it, it’s a sitcom about mom’s who juggle their children with their careers. It’s funny, promise.
  • Snowflake Mountain – Lazy Gen Z-ers are told they’re going on an extravagant vacation only to be taken to a mountain with no running water to live in a cabin. It’s a background show and definitely on the trash side of TV, but entertaining.
  • Old Enough – This one is a little random, but is my go-to when I only have 12 minutes to eat (it’s that quick of a show). Japanese toddlers run errands on their own for the first time. It’s really sweet!

As always, thanks for catching up with me here!

XO, Vivian
