Unbreakable Resolutions for 2021 (+1 year UPDATE)

Last year I had three resolutions. I was so realistic and yet I still didn’t accomplish all of them. Part of me wants to blame the virus and call it a day, but I know I could have tried a little harder. Take a look at previous resolutions below, or keep reading for what’s in store this year!

2020 – New Decade, New Resolutions (+1 year UPDATE)

2019 – Fail Proof Resolutions, I think (+1 year UPDATE)

2018 – Talking Resolutions in Jeans & Sneaks (1+ year UPDATE)

Scroll a tad more for 2021 resolutions! Stay put for a recap of the good that came out of 2020.

  • I got a new job at the start of the pandemic! A definite highlight of my year. My new boss is an angel and values my input in therapeutic intervention. Also, doesn’t hurt that I’m earning more!
  • I started my newsletter! After 3 fun years of blogging I finally got on with it and sent out my first newsletter. It comes about once a month with a personal life recap and latest blog posts. Subscribe to the right if you’re on a desktop, scroll to the end of this blog post if you’re on your phone to subscribe.
  • I hiked an entire mountain! I, Vivian, hiked a mountain with an elevation of 14,429′ this summer. Can you believe it?! I wouldn’t believe it if I told my 15 year old self but there’s proof I did. A hike like that was never on my bucket list, but it was easily the most physically demanding thing I have ever done. I am so proud of this! (Read that story HERE)

The hardest part of last year was Peewee’s passing. My heart still aches and I get big tears in my eyes if I think about him long enough. More on our last day together HERE.

Exercise

March-December 2020 was a major exercise flop. I did the occasional youtube workout or run, but mainly did a whole lot of power walking. I love power walking and I take pride in walking really fast, but it wasn’t enough for me. The scale didn’t move and for that I’m thankful!

2021 is my year to be active again! I’m currently weight training in hopes of firming up the not so firm body parts right now, but I’ll be adding in the things I really enjoy too like yoga and climbing.

UPDATE: I’m starting on a good note here to say I accomplished this goal. Heck YES! After consistently weight training by myself at my apartment gym, I decided to enroll myself back at Orange Theory in April once again. I injured my ankle/arch in July so I haven’t been able to run very much, but I’ve stayed consistent. More on OrangeTheory HERE.

Write

I was writing everyday until the first lockdown in March last year. I’m sad to say I didn’t write anything for the rest of the year. I have nothing to look back at now, which I enjoy doing from time to time. It also feels good to leave my thoughts on paper. Just because it feels good doesn’t mean it comes easy though, so I’ll be working on setting time aside to journal everyday.

UPDATE: 2020’s journal/planner is so sad looking that I used it as scratch paper in 2021. As for my 2021 journal? It’s full! Pages and pages of writing and memories for me to look back on. Moments I’d otherwise forget if I didn’t jot them down. I’ll keep on writing in 2022 without a doubt.

Read

Why is this one so hard for me?! I told myself I’d do the ten pages per day thing and that lasted a whole two weeks before it stopped being a priority. Taking this goal from last year and saying I’ll read a book per quarter. Easy right? And if i meet my goal, I’ll get myself a kindle for reading even more in 2022.

UPDATE: LOL I’m never making a reading goal for myself ever again. That’s a promise! I read one book this year and only because I got COVID-19 in September and was stuck at home for 10 days. The book had the most boring ending and I regret reading it. I’d love to have a night time routine that includes reading, but writing is taking priority for now.

Save

My loyal readers get to hear it first… I make my last student loan payment in less than a month!!! I’ve aggressively paid down my student loans to be done with them, and now that it’s almost over it’s hard to believe that I’ll have all this money to myself. Like, what?!

It looks like I’ll need a new financial goal. I’m on a long lease at my current apartment and I’m hoping it’ll be last one. For now I plan to reallocate the funds that were going towards my debt to instead save for a down payment for a townhome in Dallas. Now that I’ve spoken it into existence, let’s make it happen!

UPDATE: I did make that final student loan payment early this year and I am still so proud of myself! So where’d the money go this year? I spent a lot on furniture. I never allowed myself to buy anything and it felt good to make my place a little more homey this year. As for the apartment, I’ll be signing another lease even though I really don’t want to. Dallas has been good to me but I don’t know if it’s my forever home just yet.

Do you have similar goals to mine this year? Let me know! As always, thanks for reading and following along 🙂

XO, Vivian
