Holiday Plans for One

How are you holding up during this time of year? As if 2020 hasn’t been wacky enough already, it’s Christmas time and this pandemic is dividing families like never before. Spending the holiday alone? I’ve got some ideas!

The first time I spent Thanksgiving alone was in 2011. My entire family was back home in the Rio Grande Valley celebrating together and I was living in San Antonio. We were planning on meeting in Houston the following day so it was “easier” if I just spent the holiday alone. How could they do that to me?!

It wasn’t ideal, but I survived and you can survive this holiday too. Here’s a mix of what I did that day in 2011 and what I would do now:

Work Out

A day with no work in sight calls for a solid sweat session. My favorite thing to do is catch a powerful yoga flow class in a heated studio. I know and love Black Swan – they’re having a themed “Namasleigh” class at 2:00pm Christmas Day!

Binge Something

Shows I can’t get enough of lately, or have finished already on my own binge. All on Netflix:

  • Jane the Virgin
  • Ozark
  • Dead to Me
  • Insatiable
  • The Good Place
  • Schitt’s Creek
  • The Walking Dead
  • You

Try a New Recipe

I’ve mentioned it a time or two that I don’t cook. That doesn’t mean I don’t have dozens of recipes saved! I’m a fan of quiche and would love to make this one for brunch. I make this Tomato Tortellini Soup frequently and wouldn’t mind having it for my holiday dinner either.

Peruse the Interweb

I’m guilty of scrolling through my phone too quickly. Take the time to read your great aunt’s captions, look at pictures of your cousin’s children, and read your favorite blogs. It’s a nice change to take it slow on the social media rather than speed through.

Complete Your Skincare Routine

Do you skip a step sometimes? I know I do! Exfoliate, cleanse, tone, apply serum, do all the steps that you’re too tired to do at 11:00pm most nights. Don’t forget the SPF in the morning, and moisturize your neck and hands before bed.

Reflect + Write

It’s easy for me to spend a half hour in silence thinking about anything and everything. I gain so much more from my time reflecting when I’m able to write my thoughts down to look back at. Consider the year’s highs and lows, and maybe jot down some goals for the New year.

There you have it, friends! That’s what a holiday alone would look like for me. Let me know if I missed something!

XO,

Vivian
