Fall Scarf

Halloween is tomorrow, but a lot of festivities took place this past weekend and I hope ya’ll had a fun one! Halloween is my absolute favorite to celebrate! I made the long drive to Dallas for the short weekend and even though I’m always tired by the end of it all, I never regret it. I came into the weekend ready to have a good time with friends and prepared to stay out late, BUT the weather happened. It was 36 degrees one morning (that just doesn’t fly with me!) so I decided to keep the festivities to a minimum and end the night early after a few hours at a friends house. If the weather were a little better, I had all sorts of ideas to celebrate! A couple years back me and Prashi made it to Dark Hour Haunted House at their Plano location and boy was I terrified!!! Yep. Terrified totally deserves to be in bold because I swear ya’ll, it was that scary! I’m a grown adult and I walked out of there with so much adrenaline, ready to kill anything even half scary looking that looked at me wrong! It’s a little pricey, but I highly recommend this haunted house if you’re looking for some frights.

I dressed as Luigi for the night, but I’d wear this casual look if I’d made it out to the haunted house. Even though, lets be real, how am I supposed to run away from monsters in heeled booties?! I’ve had this pretty fall floral scarf for some time now and it’s not in this color anymore, but there’s a really pretty black one with bits of blush and grey that’s calling my name! Even better is when your handbag matches your scarf and they look like they were meant for each other. This Kate Spade handbag is so good for everyday use and comes in 8 colors! The deep plum color of my handbag is perfect for cooler weather and gives all my neutral outfits a nice pop of color. What’s your favorite pop of color for fall?

As always, thanks for stopping by! I appreciate you taking the time to scroll through my little corner of the internet. See ya soon!

Dark Denim

I’m just going to come out here and say it. I hate jeans!!! Almost everyday I show up to class in leggings and I see my classmates wearing jeans and I’m amazed every time. They’re my heroes! But really, I’m exhausted from wiggling and squeezing into jeans. I always have to ask myself if the occasion merits real pants, which unfortunately for me, it usually does. The good news is that not all denim is created equally, and if I’m even half trying to look like a decent human, these dark wash jeans do it for me! They feel like butter when I wear them, but more importantly, we all need a good pair of dark wash jeans for cooler weather. These jeans come in petite sizes too and they’re the perfect length (coming from someone who gets nearly all pants tailored)! No matter leg length, you’ll love these jeans! Happy Wednesday, ya’ll!

Woodsy Workout

Champion leggings from Target are my favorite! I wear leggings ALL the time and even though I have a lot, they wear down over time from the constant use. I never feel guilty getting so much use out of Champion leggings because they’re SO affordable. We’ve all had a top/jeans/shoes that we really like but never wear because it’s too “nice” and then it just sits there in your closet barely even touched. I don’t want to experience that with leggings, and luckily with Champion, I don’t have to.

I’ll be honest and say I originally bought this sports top because it was pretty, but with use, it’s become a favorite (and removable pads, duh!). It’s soft and holds what needs to be held while running. I can be picky about leggings with my short legs and all, but these were an easy pick and perfect length! This pair has a thinner fabric around the knee area which comes in handy, as I’ll occasionally wear a knee sleeve when I feel knee pain. The knee sleeve is thick enough as it is, and sliding it over thick leggings and then running like that is hard and causes more discomfort. I loved that this pair of leggings made it easy to slip on a knee sleeve and still be comfortable!

Hope you enjoy this look! Also, I realize I didn’t get a photo with the white sweater zipped, but I’ll be sure to do that in an upcoming blog post!

Olive & Black Jeans

What I really wanted to name this post was, “Leaves?!” Haha I’m clearly excited! I’m not a fan of cooler weather at all, but watching the trees change color and walking out to leaves on the ground each fall makes the outdoors a little more inviting.

Also, isn’t olive such a fall color?! I know I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s one of my favorite colors! This top is an old one and it keeps getting cozier with each wash. I linked a similar and super cute one from Old Navy and it comes in 7 colors! That’s almost too many options, except I’m a girl and I love options. Ok ya’ll, I need to take a sec and talk about my love-hate relationship with black jeans. I love them, but I never know if they’ll come out faded after the first wash. Let’s be real, no matter how careful you are with separating colors and using special detergent, there’s a chance your black jeans will fade. Sure enough, my H&M jeans faded some after the first wash. Normally I’d be upset, but 1) these jeans are so inexpensive that it’s not that big of a deal and 2) they made my jeans look comfy and worn-in so I guess I’m diggin’ it! If you have any secrets to keeping black jeans in tippy top conditions, leave a comment and let me know. Happy Monday!

Striped Tunic + Grad School

It’s been a year since I got my grad school acceptance phone call! Thinking about that day puts a smile on my face, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s been a tough few weeks in the life of a grad student. Lately I’ve been eating, sleeping, and breathing flashcards and textbooks (and I know I’m working hard when dog snuggles reserved for bed time only). I’m feeling  guilty these days because for a very long time I prayed, and hoped and crossed my fingers as hard as I could for acceptance into a master’s program, and I finally got in. I cried so much that day because I was so happy! That day, in that moment, I promise you you couldn’t find one person in the universe who was happier to go back to school than I was. I got what I so badly wanted, and I’ll be grateful to the school acceptance gods forever, but it’s so hard to maintain motivation. For weeks now, I’ve been telling myself, “next week will be better.” This time, I genuinely believe next week will be better!

Back to business! I woke up yesterday morning to a cold front that brought temps down to 75 degrees (c’mon fall, you can do better than that!). It’ll be back up to 90 this week, but it’s finally starting to cool down long enough in the mornings and evenings to wear long sleeves, which is kind of exciting. This striped tunic was on my Instagram along with this black crossbody yesterday and a lot of you seemed to love the bag, I did too! It’s less than $20 and comes in 4 colors, including a pretty metallic gray that I’ll be ordering ASAP! After linking the crossbody on here I realized it’s from the latest brand Target started to carry, A New Day. If this is a taste of what’s to come, I’m looking forward to it! Happy Wednesday, friends!

Blush Off The Shoulder

Hey there, friends! My last trip into Forever 21, I saw this off the shoulder top and tried it on in all 3 colors in store (maroon, black, blush). Well, I just checked online and it’s now in stock in white and it’s sooo pretty! Totally would’ve snagged it in white, but at the time, this blush was my favorite and the most flattering for my skin color. Then, I got home and I had to figure out how to wear it. Does that happen to you? Where you buy something because you really like it, but then you don’t know what to do with it? That’s how I end up with so many clothes with tags still attached, but not this time! I really did swoon over this top and eventually decided to pretend I was on my way to a rock concert [insert rock band name]. It looks like blush pieces are no longer restricted to the summertime, so I’ll have to stock up on some other items of the same color! How is October treating ya’ll?

Black Lace

Black brings out the edgy side of me, I think. I naturally gravitate towards lighter and brighter colors, but as the season begins to change, I know I can’t be wearing neon colors. Black and white is SO classic. It seems like everything comes in black and white, therefore making it so easy to put together something to wear in these contrasting colors.

This top is see through and could have (should have?) been worn with a back tank underneath, but the lace detail automatically becomes less visible with a tank under, so I went on without it and I’m so happy I did! This was taken in warmer weather, but for a chilly night, I’d pair this top with this black biker jacket.  I opted for these distressed jeans again. I do have a pair that isn’t distressed, but I thought this pair made me look a little more relaxed. Heels are so fun to wear, and I almost chose black booties for this look, but these heels made me feel a little more feminine. Also, I automatically feel a million times more classy when my heels don’t have a platform, though both styles are in my closet! What makes you feel edgy?

Orange is the New Black

Happy October, guys! I wore this look out to Mercy Wine Bar in Addison with Prashi (the boyfriend) on a Friday night and I felt so girly. This ribbed racerback tank is kind of long, so I created a side tie for the illusion of a crop top. The bottoms I’m wearing are actually size M pajama bottoms. My big sis was getting ready to toss them out and I knew they’d look SO cute high waisted and whad’ya know? They turned out to be the perfect length with some black chunky heels!

This tank is one of two items in my entire closet that is orange, but I’m not quite convinced that orange is the new black. However, OITNB on Netflix is so good! I recently finished all 5 seasons available on Netflix and Poussey Washington is my favorite character. I don’t want to ruin it for others, so that’s about all I can say. It’s so good and I probably cried a dozen times throughout the last couple seasons. I just get so emotionally invested with characters! What’s on your Netflix queue?

I Don’t Have Big Muscles

Story time: My niece, who’s in 6th grade, was in my passenger seat the other day. I don’t get to see her very often, but when I do, I like to learn as much as I can about her. For small talk, I asked her about her P.E. class and she responded by asking me what kind of exercise I like to do. Without me saying anything, she automatically assumed I didn’t “lift weights” because I don’t have big muscles (ouch!). Her point of view was interesting, and it gave me a chance to be a good aunt and explain to her what I actually do.

Why do you workout? Is it to look better, feel better, age better? For me, it’s all of the above, but if I could only choose ONE reason for physical activity, it would be to feel strong when I’m 85. At 85 years of age, I would like to be a contributing member of society – driving a car, doing my own groceries, lifting a bag of dog food, and that’s what I think about when I go to the gym and weight train. I really needed that reminder that I’m not trying to break world records, I’m just trying to have a healthy body.

The look: An important factor for my workout wear is for it to be able to move along with me, keep me dry, and be comfortable (just in case I need to run errands, which is always). Both my sports top and shorts are from Gap and they do just what I described! This lilac sports top is not suitable for tough running, but is better used for yoga or weight training (so many pretty colors available!!!). Now, for my favorite part of this workout look… My cap! Since temporarily relocating to Kingsville for school, I spend A LOT of time outside walking to and from class (.70 miles each way), walking my dog, and running. I needed a durable, sweat-proof cap, and the selling point for this cap was that it offers UPF 50+ sun protection. I really cannot recommend this cap enough (and it’s on sale)!

Cable Knit

Hope your Monday is off to a great start! How was your weekend? Me and Tito (dog) made the 6.5 hour drive from Kingsville to Dallas to see Prashi and Peewee (dog) for the weekend. The drive is BRUTAL, especially when it’s done within the same weekend, but that’s long distance for ya! I have essays and exams galore for the next month before things slow down a tad just in time for Halloween and that’ll be the next time I see the boyfriend. Kicking it into high gear until then!

This cable knit has been in my closet for quite some time now, about 3 years (I’m a bit of a hoarder, but working on it!). It is so thick and really meant to keep you warm, which it does, but since it’s so chunky it can also make you look like you’re hiding a lot underneath.  For that very reason, I paired it with some shorts. My inherently skinny legs really seemed to balance out the big sweater on top, and voila! Casual looks are my real life, and this look was perfect for a little brunch and errand-running.
