How I Met My Other Dog

Peewee turned 14 last month. I can’t believe it! A succulent refuses to survive in my home yet I have managed to care for my little fur guy for 14 years. I wanted to write another blog post about Peewee, but then I realized I hadn’t written one about Tito (pictured below). So here I am, writing about Tito.

Long before Tito made his way into my Dallas home in 2015, he met my sister, Sandy, in South Texas. She found a young, homeless Tito outside her office building by the dumpster. To this day he is terrified of loud sounds and people hovering over him, so I have no idea how my sister caught him!

My family has too much experience rescuing dogs and re-homing them. Tito should not have been special, but he was. Sandy loved him, took care of him, and tried to re-home him just as she had with all others. Unfortunately for Tito no one was interested in adopting him. I would FaceTime Sandy to see how she was doing and she would show me Tito’s little brown face. He grew on me! Many many FaceTime calls and conversations later, we thought it would be a good idea for me to bring Tito to Dallas from South Texas to find him a home.

It was so easy! A woman in HR at UT Dallas was interested and talked to me for a while. We had a date for her to meet Tito, but it never happened. Little guy was back to square one. Me and Prashi decided to keep him after searching for his furever home for forever and no one wanting him.

There I was, full-time in undergrad with one senior dog and a puppy living in a student apartment on campus at UT Dallas. Thinking back to that time brings back so many memories. All of them so much sweeter having Tito in my life! He was an unrefined, neurotic, boney, underweight little thing with crusty ears and I loved him!

I hope you have enjoyed Tito’s rags to riches story. These days you can find him nestled under my arm, on top of a pillow, or under one of his many dog blankets. He enjoys car rides in his dog bed on the way to the dog park where one of his dozen toys is thrown to his hearts content.

Please consider adopting your next pet. There are so many other just like Tito who were left on the street to figure things out for themselves. Check out PetFinder.com for adoptable pets near you!
