Travel Diary: Fredericksburg

After 18 months of blogging and Instagramming, I decided it was time to round up a few girls for my first girls trip! I sent out a few direct messages and before I knew it, girls were trusting me for a long weekend getaway.

We hit the road in my new wheels (new car post here) at approx. 6:45pm on Friday and didn’t get in until past midnight. It shouldn’t have been that long of a drive, but we were excited and made three stops on the way there – Sonic, HEB, Taco Bell. An HEB stop was absolutely necessary for us. We bought the basics for a quick bite the following morning and it was a lifesaver!

Wine

Day 1:

Texas Grapes Wine Tours picked up the group from our airbnb on Saturday morning. It sounds juvenile and I hadn’t been in a limo in years, but it was actually a lot of fun! Booking with Texas Grapes was easy and our wine preferences were considered when our driver, Kim, took the group to visit wineries. Kim didn’t just drive us, she made appointments for us at wineries, paid for the group, and gave us a time to be back in the limo by. She was very organized and so helpful! I’m glad we decided to use this service rather than try to visit wineries on our own. We visited the following:

Barons Creek Vineyards: This first stop was easily the most beautiful. The wine was excellent, service was great, and the property itself was breathtaking. Definitely my number one of the places we visited!

4.0 Cellars: Hands down the best service at 4.0! Not a bloggers paradise with pretty places in every corner, but I really enjoyed my wine tasting here. I bought my mom a bottle of Riesling from here that I know she will love!

Messina Hof: I was excited to arrive at Messina Hof, but the service was not the best and I didn’t enjoy my wine tasting. Other wineries had a set list of 5 red, white, or sweet wines for guests to taste. It gives a person like me, who knows nothing about wine, a guide of what I could possibly like. I think I would’ve enjoyed this winery a little more if I had some more guidance.

Day 2:

We took this day to tour wineries ourselves. It really made me appreciate Kim and how she managed to get us from place to place in a timely manner. We tried to hop from place to place but it just wasn’t the same!

Signor Vineyards: Another gorgeous vineyard! This place was massive and the grounds were beautiful in every corner. I didn’t drink wine on day 2 because I was the designated driver, but the other girls shared a bottle of rose and raved about it.

Das Peach Haus: Again, I didn’t taste any wines here, but I got to walk around and enjoy the sights of the property. There was so much to see and a lot of space around a pond and deck to spread out for larger parties. It was woodsy and felt like I was in a different state. Overall a pretty place with all the mom and pop shop vibes.

Dine

I’ll be honest and say nightlife is limited. Fredericksburg is more of a day time drinking kind of place, so there was not a lot to do in the evenings except eat. Locals and yelp helped us find these gems 🙂

Crossroads Saloon & Steakhouse: We had dinner here and while I did not eat steak, the rest of the girls did and they said it was fantastic. The saloon itself was so fun and felt very Texan. Live music was played Saturday and Sunday night. I definitely danced to my hearts content on both nights!

Emma + Ollie: This was a pretty brunch spot perfect for a cheers boomerang. Ha! Our mimosas were yummy and so were our meals. The restaurant prides itself in using only fresh ingredients with no processed foods or artificial sweeteners – I loved that!

Bella Sara Italian Restaurant: We stumbled upon this place so randomly, but I left with a full tummy. Bella Sara serves up a Texas sized portion of any Italian food you can think of!

Stay

5 big, shining, yellow stars to our Airbnb! It was conveniently located 5 minutes away from everything near Main Street. We were so close to town that we couldn’t even finish listening to a full song on Spotify. The home itself was charming and had plenty of room for us to spread out. Our home had a giant backyard with tables and chairs with string lights. It was the perfect setup to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening, but it was raining so I didn’t get to take advantage of it. Check out the home we stayed in here.

It was a wonderful girls trip. I highly recommend taking one if you never have before. It was the best way to start my year! Hope ya’ll enjoyed this recap 🙂

XO, Vivian
